Fake news is now everywhere.
When browsing the web or watching the tv it can be difficult to know what to believe. Fake news can be described as
false or misleading information that is published for fradualent or pollitically motivated purposes. Fake news articles
tend to mimic real new and reliable new sources with similar links or just a similar website style. Other ways to spot
fake news can just be really reading the article to see if the story aligns with the rest of the article as sometimes
the title may not completely match the title. Another helpful way to check for fake news is just to research the author of
article as the authors achievements, name and picture might not line up. Checking the sources of the article can help spot
false information as official sources that are linked tend to not backup the sources. Research to see if the webiste it self is
trust worthy, do they have a mission statement and are they a professional outlet. Is the site mimicing another popular news outlet
by having a similar url or styl, and checking your own biases also might help as after thinking about that you may realize that it is
fake news that is trying to appeal to your world view. If other news outlets are picking up the story it is more likely a real story.
If you have identified a site to be showing fake news, you can report it on google by clicking the send feedback button at the bottom of the page you can attach a screen shot and explain what information is false and which site you are reporting. Facebook also has a way to report fake news, you can click the 3 dots on the top right corner of a post and report it as a false story. Twitter also has their way to report tweets, you can do so by clicking the arrow in the corner and click report tweet as either spam or "abbusive or harmful".
Fighting back againest fake news will help us all get correct and useful information without having to worry about whether it is real or not.
